Pastor's Weekly Musing

Hey everyone!

This will be my last Weekly Musing before signing off for the Summer. Pastor Portia will be sending one every Thursday, as normal, with all the Meadows upcoming events and important dates, as well as a devotional every few weeks from a rotating team. What a squad we have here at Meadows. It's really an amazing team -- a family.

Thank God for family, especially as we deal with life and process the emotions it evokes. Like you, I've got them ALL currently: the excitement/anxiety from a sabbatical assignment, and all that it entails; my youngest child about to head into High School, and how time seems to be slipping away faster than I can handle; and the absolute heartbreak of yet another school shooting -- this time of elementary-aged kids -- and the anger and despondency that it brings.

Thank God for Jesus. And thank God for family.

In Christ Jesus, we have assurance that God is not ambivalent about -- nor unfamiliar with -- our struggle and pain. He knows what it's like to grieve, and suffer, and be abandoned. He even knows what it's like to lose a Son. He understands, and He knows exactly what we need.

Further, in Christ Jesus we have assurance that evil will be dealt with. We grieve, we weep, we endure, but we don't give way to despair, because we know that God is real, He's here, and He's putting all things in subjection under the feet of Jesus.

In our family, God gives us people to do all of this with. Life is hard, from the mundane passing of time, to the perils of human atrocities. We lean on each other, we pray for each other, we worship together, and we bear one another's burdens.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up."

Thanks for being a part of this family, under the care of King Jesus. I love this church!

This Sunday, we'll conclude our series, What is a Christian?

We're beloved children, part of His family, worshipers, and disciples of Jesus. Isn't that it? What else is there?

Glad you asked.

In the finale, we'll look at the role we play outside of our church walls. All of the previously mentioned attributes of a Christian are true even if we never leave our church property. But God has called us to be representatives of Christ, to interact with the world in a way that causes them to see and hear Jesus in what we say and do.

Join us this Sunday for Part 5 - Ambassadors.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the walkway!
