Pastor's Weekly Musing
Hey everyone!
If you missed last Sunday, Portia and I announced that earlier this year the Church Council offered me the opportunity to take a Sabbatical through the summer -- starting this June -- and after prayerful deliberation and planning, I'm going to go for it.
I'm so appreciative of a Church Council and Elders team that are intentional about caring for the mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our pastors. Portia took her 3-month sabbatical in 2018, I'm heading into mine next month, and I'd like to get the rest of our staff pastors on the schedule in the coming years for theirs as well. The hope is to have this model woven into our church culture -- a sabbatical for each pastor every 6-7 years -- so that it's a built-in and normal part of the role, as a means to foster enduring longevity, expanded ministry capacity for the future, and rest and rejuvenation for health and well-being.
Portia will stay and continue leading Meadows as my co-pastor. We'll have a rotating team of preachers from within our staff, as well as a handful of awesome guest-speakers from outside our flock. I'll be back in the office the 2nd week of September, ready to go.
Here's the video clip from this past Sunday, where Portia and I go into detail about what this will look like and the heart behind it.

Thanks for all the kind words and support this past week, to all who were there. Portia and I not only love you all dearly, but we feel loved by you too. I really do love this church!

This Sunday, we'll continue our series, What is a Christian?
So far, we've concluded that a believer is a Beloved Child of God, a part of the Community of God, and a Worshiper of God.
We're His kids, we're a part of His family, and we center our lives and attention on Him. Is there more to it? Doesn't that seem to cover it? What else do we need to talk about?
Yes, there's more. Because just like kids, while we're part of the family and have our hearts focused on the right thing, we still got some growing up to do. We need tutelage, apprenticing, coaching. We'll dive into that exact concept this week.
Join us this Sunday for Part 4 - Disciple.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the walkway!
