Pastor's Weekly Musing

Hey everyone!

So, last Sunday was AWESOME. If you missed it, Pastor Portia preached on "Our Community," and gave a sneak peek at the direction we're heading in as a church.

I found it fascinating to hear about how our brains are wired for growth, that both the left AND right sides of our brains are necessary to truly transform into the likeness of Christ. While the left side houses our intellect and willpower, the right side is where our identity is formed, where our joy and connections are stored, which is exactly what we need to engage and enhance to truly grow.

Community, it turns out, is vital in our walk with God!

And this is exactly the area we feel God is leading us to expand and "grow intentionally" this year. Portia alluded to a 10-week discipleship experience that we're preparing to launch, called "ROOTED" .

It's incredible, and it's exactly what we as pastors have been praying for to aid us in launching our church into orienting our discipleship growth within the context of community groups.

LOTS more details will be rolled out this Sunday, so DON'T MISS THIS WEEK!

With this direction will come some shifts. The two biggest ones:

1- The Wednesday Night Connect adult Bible study will conclude, as we shift to ROOTED as our mid-week gathering. The final Connect will be held on February 1.

**IMPORTANT NOTE: Meadows Youth Group will still be meeting every Wednesday Night, even when ROOTED is in session and beyond. No changes there.

2- The world-famous Ladies Connect will also be on hold for the time being, as we give our total attention to the launch of ROOTED. The growth and connections formed in Ladies Connect have been awesome, and we're hoping to bring our whole church family into the same depth of community.

Again, come this Sunday for lots more info on our direction, and registration for ROOTED will be opening soon, so stay tuned.

Portia and I couldn't be more excited about our direction in 2023!

It's time to grow deeper intentionally!

This Sunday, we'll continue our series, This is Us.

We identified seven major challenges we're facing in the church, and how we're going to face them. Portia spoke about facing the cultural challenge of individualism by intentionally being a strong community.

This week, we'll address the next challenge: ideology. And not just ideology, but that which is elevated to a degree that it becomes an idol. Ideological idolatry. Sounds fun, right?

Our surrounding culture has formed us into aligning ourselves (often times passionately) with particular ideologies, whether it be political, economic, sexual, social, etc., etc., etc. How do we as believers face this with grace and truth, and counter-form our souls into the likeness of Christ?

Join us this Sunday for Part 3 - A Community of Orthodoxy.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the walkway!
