Pastor's Weekly Musing
Hey everyone!
I read Psalm 11 earlier this morning. Check this verse out:
Psalm 11:7 God's business is putting things right; he loves getting the lines straight, setting us straight. Once we're standing tall, we can look him straight in the eye. (MSG)
What a great (paraphrase) translation. God really IS in the business of putting things right. It's what He does.
He's doing this at the MACRO level. Ever since sin entered the picture in Genesis 3, He's been on a mission to right what we have wronged, to redeem what the enemy stole.
He cursed the serpent and declared prophetically, "He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel," a foretelling of the cross and Christ's defeat of sin and death. God has been in the business of saving the world from the power of darkness for a millennia.
God's also doing this at the MICRO level. He's not only a 'big-picture' God, He's a God of the tiny little microscopic lives we all lead individually.
He tells us in Ephesians 2:10, "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."
A 'masterpiece' is hand-crafted and individual, requires painstaking focus and attention, and is the source of joy and delight for its creator. Think of the Mona Lisa by Leonardo DaVinci, or the Sistine Chapel ceiling by Michelangelo. Those are as micro as it gets. That's God to us.
Rest in the knowledge that God is a God of both MACRO and MICRO. He knows and cares about the most intimate details of our lives, while simultaneously directing the universe in a direction for our good and His glory.
What a God, right? It makes me want to breathe in deeply of His goodness and trust that He's got this all under control.
Amen?

This Sunday, we'll continue our series out of 1 Kings, Elijah and Elisha.
Last week we saw how Elijah ran for his life and tried to quit the ministry, only to have God chase him down to reduce him. He gave Elijah rest and a meal, treated him tenderly, got him back on his feet, and then revealed His overall plan for Israel moving forward.
Part of that plan was Elijah's successor, Elisha. In our next chapter, we get an inside look at how the call of God worked in Elisha's life, and the parallels to the life of a believer are incredible. We're called too!
Join us this Sunday for Part 4 - The Call.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the walkway!
