Pastor's Weekly Musing

Hey everyone!

This week, I've asked our very own David Bombara to write the devotional for our weekly musing. David and Laura have been attending Meadows for over three years now, and have thrown themselves into ministry and relationships right from the get go. They serve as table facilitators at Rooted, on our visual team, hospitality team, and David leads our awesome Men's Ministry. He has such a strong heart for people, as anyone who has ever talked with him can attest!

Enjoy his devotional!

If someone told me twenty years ago I would be leading a Rooted group I would have told them they were out of their mind. Not because I didn't believe in God, I just believed in myself a whole lot more. Back then I thought you racked up "heaven points" by going to church and lost them when you missed a service. I thought if I accumulated enough of these imaginary points God would be more likely to see me through any crisis that arose. I know, looking back it's hilarious to me also. I wish I could say I woke up one day and miraculously knew that God loved me unconditionally but that wasn't the case. He used my first small group leaders, Jeff and Anita, to transform me.

After refusing to join a small group with my wife for 10 years I finally took the plunge but still did not truly want to be there. The people were nice but I felt out of place. I thought back then I had to be a Bible scholar or have the perfect Christian walk to qualify to be in the group. A few weeks in, Laura and I had a huge blow-up which I started right in the middle of group time and my life changed.

I thought for sure Jeff and Anita were going to tell me I wasn't welcome back but instead they showed me more love than I had ever felt. With Laura and I in opposite corners of the living room prayer rung out from all directions with Jeff and Anita leading the way. As cooler heads prevailed, Jeff gave me a huge hug and said God loved me and that he was grateful I was a part of the group. For the first time in my life, I felt accepted for who I was and not for what I accomplished or how hard I worked.

That night started an incredible journey with countless God stories along the way. Over the past 15 years Laura and I have been blessed to lead many small groups together while strengthening our love for Christ and for each other. If you were not able to be a part of a Rooted group this season, I encourage you to sign up the next time it is offered. In the meantime, I challenge you to not fly solo through life like I did for so many years. Meadows is filled with many amazing people who I know would love to grab a coffee and fellowship with you. And who knows, a few years from now they might just write about how you (with a little help from the Big Guy above) helped change their life.

This Sunday, we'll start a short series leading up to Easter Sunday: Holy Week.

It's the name given for the week leading up to Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. It starts on Palm Sunday, when Jesus enters Jerusalem for the final time, and culminates in the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior the following Sunday morning.

So much took place during that week that it's quite honestly the biggest week in the history of the universe. We'll take just a few weeks to look closely at some highlights and hopefully prepare our hearts for the celebration of Resurrection Sunday. This week, we'll take a close look at Palm Sunday, the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

Join us this Sunday for Part 1 - The Two Processions.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the walkway!

Pastor Ron
