Pastor's Weekly Musing

Hey everyone!

What an incredible first Sunday back. I felt so welcomed and loved, it really was an amazing day. Thank you all for being as gracious and kind as you are. What a church we have here, huh?

I read out of the book of Psalms this morning a verse that struck a nerve -- in a good way -- especially in regards to what God has been doing in us and through us recently at Meadows:

Psalm 124:1 says, "If it had not been the Lord who was on our side" -- let Israel now say -- "If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, then we would have been swallowed alive, the waters would have overwhelmed us. The stream would have gone over our soul."

What an incredibly honest statement, gutturally honest. Acknowledging this truth is the beginning of the path to increased faith, increased gratitude, increased joy, increased peace. To know and see that, as we look back on our lives, if God wasn't carrying us -- if He gave up, if He walked away, if God did anything other than EXACTLY what He did for me -- I would be a dead man, a goner.

Paul says something similar in the New Testament, but on the opposite end, when He says, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31). It's a liberating truth to realize that God is on our side and all our worries -- our health, our kids, the future, our finances, relational pain, political strife -- all our struggles are overseen and cared for by a God who is not only aware, but FOR us. On our side. With us. Forever.

Try it today. Wherever you're at personally, emotionally, relationally, financially -- wherever it is: stop for a moment and acknowledge three things:

1- If God wasn't with me in my PAST, I'd have been swallowed alive.

2- God is with me now in my PRESENT, and is inexorably for me.

3- God cares about my FUTURE, so I can put my trust in Him.

All of that is absolutely true, whether you know it or not, even if you don't know if you believe it or not. Sit in that truth for a bit today. He's a healing God!

"If it had not been the Lord who was on our side..."

Thank God He always IS on our side! Amen?

This Sunday we'll begin a new series out of 1 Kings, Elijah & Elisha.

The combined prophetic ministry of these two men of God helped influence and shape God's people for generations, and their stories are still inspiring and uplifting today. In this series, we'll look at the major life events of these two prophets, and how we can be just as influenced and shaped in our personal walk the Lord even now.

To kick us off, we'll look at Elijah's first major assignment as a prophet: confront one of the worst kings in Israel's history, King Ahab. God reveals Himself to be true and alive, directly confronting the idolatry and falsehood of the day.

Join us this Sunday for Part 1 - The Living God.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the walkway!
